Typhoon Uwan Devastated Coco Areas in Bicol

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Wednesday, November 19 said coconut farms in the Bicol Region recorded the most damage during the Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong). DA Bicol Regional Director Rodel Tornilla said initial data on agriculture damage in the six provinces of Bicol reached P3.7 billion.
Among the produce, coconut suffered the most damage with 128,761 hectares of coconut plantations owned by 125,679 farmers affected, the report said. More than 3,398 hectares were completely damaged, resulting in the loss of P1.18 billion. Abaca was second, with 54,205 hectares damaged, owned by 23,807 abacaleros, estimated at P1.03 billion.
