EC Backtracks on Plans to Delay EUDR Rules
Thursday, October 23, 2025The European Commission (EC) has backtracked on plans to postpone the bloc’s landmark deforestation regulation rules by another year and has proposed targeted simplifications to the regulations, the Responsible Investor reported on Tuesday, October 21.
Instead of a one-year delay, the regulation will enter into force as expected on December 31 this year as originally planned, for large and medium companies. This applies to seven commodities namely cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soybean, wood, and rubber. Postponement will only apply to small and micro-enterprises, for which the regulation will come into effect in December 2026, citing concerns over the capacity of its IT system.
