Export Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coconut Products in December 2024

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed there were 17 non-traditional coconut products that sold over USD100,000 in the month of December 2024, two products short of the previous month’s 19.  The million-dollar earners were unchanged from last month’s nine.  These included coconut water, coconut oil other, hydrogenated coconut oil, glycerin, coconut water concentrates, fatty acid distillates, toilet/ bath soap, biodiesel, coconut milk liquid.  


COCONUT WATER kept its leading position for the seventh straight month in December when it turned in USD10.392 million during the month from sales of 12,046 MT.  The volume leaped 78.5% from 6,824 MT in a similar month a year ago.  The USA likewise secured its leading position in the market with uptake at 9,044 MT responsible for 75.2% of total.  This was followed by Canada at 1,212 MT (10.1%), United Kingdom at 1,145 MT (9.5%).  Limited volumes went to Netherlands at 237 MT (2.0%), Singapore 199 MT (1.7%) and six others which held volume under 100 MT (7-76 MT range).  The latter group consisted of China, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Sweden. 


COCONUT OIL, OTHER category held the second spot having earned USD2.937 million from external trade of 1,066 MT, rocketing 354.2% from 235 MT last year.  The USA was top market capturing 574 MT (33.7%), followed by China at 240 MT (22.5%), Pakistan at 87 MT (8.2%), Canada 62 MT (5.8%), and four others which took in volume under 50 MT (1-41 MT). The group comprised of Japan, Australia, Germany, Malaysia.  


HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL was third biggest non-traditional export with turnover of USD2.866 million after trading 3,146 MT. The shipment increased 36.3% from 2,308 MT of the previous year.  Key markets were Australia with uptake at 949 MT (30.2%), Netherlands at 840 MT (26.7%), and USA at 805 MT (25.6%). Smaller loads went to Canada at 195 MT (6.2%), Taiwan at 163 MT (5.2%), United Kingdom at 91 MT (2.9%), China 61 MT (1.9%), New Zealand 31 MT (1%), Qatar 12 MT (0.4%). 
In the fourth place was GLYCERIN with income of USD2.213 million.  Delivery at 3,243 MT spiked 83.0% from prior year at 1,772 MT.  China and Japan kept their respective positions as major importers with China taking the lead at 1,824 MT (56.2%) trailed by Japan 672 MT (20.7%).  Other markets were Thailand at 314 MT (9.7%), India at 270 MT (8.3%), Malaysia at 111 MT (3.4%), South Korea 25 MT, Vietnam 20 MT, New Zealand 6 MT, 


The other variant of coconut water, the COCONUT WATER CONCENTRATE held the fifth spot, with export proceeds of USD2.053 million from overseas orders of 475 MT.  The total clipped by 36.6% last year data at 749 MT.  China remained a principal importer in the last two months, responsible for 303 MT (63.9%), followed by Thailand at 96 MT (20.3%), Malaysia at 26 MT (5.0%), Vietnam at 25 MT (4.9%), and Netherlands at 24 MT (4.5%).   


Holding the sixth position was FATTY ACID DISTILLATES which generated USD1.905 million after selling 1,814 MT.  The volume, however, plunged 40.6% from 3,056 MT last year. China cornered bulk of the shipment at 1,472 MT (81.1%) and the rest went to India at 342 MT (28.9%).


TOILET/BATH SOAP which generated USD1.788 million stayed in the seventh slot with sales volume at 578 MT rising 16.9% from 495 MT last year.  Indonesia was the market leader which bought 219 MT (37.9%), trailed by Vietnam at 108 MT (18.6%). Limited orders were made by Thailand at 78 MT (13.5%), United Arab Emirates at 57 MT (9.9%), USA at 22 MT (3.9%), India 18 MT (3.1%), United Kingdom 13 MT (2.3%), Saudi Arabia 11 MT (2.0%), Qatar 10 MT.  Fourteen others took in much lower loads of under 10 MT (0.1-7 MT range) namely Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Kuwait, Fiji, New Zealand, Brunei, Macau, Israel, Taiwan, Canada, Bangladesh, Palau. 


The eighth position was held by BIODIESEL with export proceeds of USD1.422 million.  This month’s delivery at 586 MT was a marked improvement by 227.4% from last year at 179 MT.  South Korea led the pack for the second month running with orders amounting to 269 MT (45.8%), followed by Germany at 239 MT (40.9%), and Japan at 78 MT (13.3%).


COCONUT MILK LIQUID registered income of USD1.107 million and placed ninth.   Overseas purchases at 826 MT recorded an increment of 8.1% from the prior year at 764 MT.  Malaysia maintained its leading position with this month’s uptake at 668 MT representing 80.9% of total shipment.  The remainder was shared between United Kingdom at 100 MT (12.1%) and China at 58 MT (7.0%).


Completing the top 10 non-traditional exports was COCONUT ACID OIL with turnover of USD583,889 from orders of 604 MT, an improvement by 27.8% from 473 MT last year.  China was almost an exclusive importer capturing 564 MT (93.3%).  The remainder at 40 MT was delivered to Indonesia (6.7%).  


The next seven major non-traditional coconut products exports were Coco Milk Powder, Coco Meat Chips, Dried Mature Coconut Meat, Nata de Coco, Coco Peat/Dust, Makapuno, Coconut Flour. Details to follow in next issue of UWB.
