Coconut Products Exports Down in November 2023

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed export of coconut products by the Philippines in November was 128,946 MT in copra terms, a drop by 18.4% from 157,940 MT in a similar month a year earlier.  Gross export receipts at USD140.686 million likewise dropped by 15.9% from USD167.321 million.

Among the major exports, the gainers during the month were copra meal and desiccated coconut, while coconut oil and oleochemicals were losers.  Export of copra meal rocketed 197.6% year-on-year to 31,880 MT from 10,713 MT; desiccated coconut leaped 14.5% to 13,204 MT from 11,531 MT.  On the other hand, coconut oil shipment contracted 22.7% to 64,677 MT from 83,685 MT; oleochemicals fell 19.3% to 5,871 MT as copra from 7,279 MT.

Performance of other coconut products is as follows, MT: coco shell charcoal 9,858 (+9.4% from 9,010 year-ago), activated carbon 4,741 (-4.5% from 4,963), virgin coconut oil 2,245 (+4.2% from 2,155), coco water 9,262 (-28.5% from 12,959), fresh coconuts 3 (-94.8% from 62), Others 14,516 (-15.7% from 17,226).

Exports in January-November accumulated to 1,857,024 MT in copra terms, trimming by 11.6% same time last year total at 2,100,198 MT.  Corresponding revenue at USD1.775 billion slashed last year at USD3.033 billion by 41.5%. Breakdown by commodity follows, MT: coconut oil 991,444 (1,132,668 year-ago), copra meal 268,465 (302,639), desiccated coconut 143,398 (143,872), oleochemicals as copra 61,599 (79,875); 

Coco shell charcoal 107,816 (105,420), activated carbon 54,826 (74,473), virgin coconut oil 26,818 (24,549), coco water 68,822 (124,449), fresh coconuts 182 (241), Others 177,043 (227,132).
