US Import of Lauric Oils Down in June

In June this year, the US imported 46,300 MT of lauric oils, according to data from Oil World.  This is 12.6% lower than 53,000 MT imported in the same month last year.  The bulk of the month’s delivery was coconut oil at 33,700 MT or 72.8% of the pack and palm kernel oil was 12,600 MT or 27.2%.  Both oils recorded reduced shipments with coconut oil off by 10.6% from 37,700 MT and palm kernel oil down by 17.6% from 15,300 MT.
Indonesia remained the leading supplier of lauric oils to the US with total at 26,800 MT (20,100 MT last year) which accounted for 57.9% of  total lauric oil mix.  This consisted of 14,500 MT (6,500 MT) of coconut oil and 12,300 MT (13,600 MT) of palm kernel oil.  The Philippines was second major source of lauric oils at 17,500 MT (29,300 MT) of coconut oil only, which made up 37.8% of aggregate.
Delivery from Malaysia was 500 MT (1,500 MT) and comprised 1.1%, of which 400 MT (400 MT) was coconut oil and 100 MT (1,100 MT) was palm kernel oil.  Purchases from other countries totaled 1,500 MT (2,100 MT) and shared 3.2%.  This consisted of 1,300 MT (1,500 MT) coconut oil and 200 MT (600 MT) palm kernel oil.
Total import for the first half of 2023 amounted to 343,000 MT, a reduction by 14.9% from 403,100 MT at the same time last year.  Of this total, coconut oil was 208,100 MT (254,100 MT) of which 63.4% came from the Philippines at 131,900 MT (153,100 MT).  Palm kernel oil was 134,900 MT (149,000 MT) of which 85.6% or 115,500 MT (134,100 MT) originated from Indonesia.
