Coco Shell Charcoal Exports of Selected Countries Up in January-October 2022
Thursday, February 9, 2023Country data from Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka compiled by the International Coconut Community (ICC) show coconut shell charcoal exports in January-October 2022 of the three countries aggregated 241,122 MT. This is an increase of 8.7% over same period year-earlier at 221,923 MT.
All three countries recorded increased shipment over previous year with Sri Lanka showing the sharpest upswing of 78.9% year-on-year at 12,237 MT from 6,840 MT. Indonesia, which was the biggest exporter with delivery of 132,472 MT saw shipment climbed moderately by 7.2% from 123,631 MT. Purchases from the Philippines at 96,413 MT showed the slowest growth at 5.4% from 91,452 MT.
Market shares during the period of Indonesia and the Philippines slightly eroded at 54.9% (55.7% year-earlier) and 40.0% (41.2%), respectively as Sri Lanka increased participation at 5.1% (3.1%). Based on the year’s 10-month data, Indonesia and Philippine annual totals are likely to exceed last year while Sri Lanka already surpassed last year by 46.5%.
