Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coconut Products Export in August

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show 16 non-traditional coconut products generated export revenue of more than USD100,000 in August, same number as in July, thus qualified in the top non-traditional export products category.  The top 10 export products generated above USD1.000 million in revenue during the month; last month it was only nine. This included coconut water, virgin coconut oil, fatty acid distillates, hydrogenated coconut oil, glycerin, coconut milk liquid, coconut water concentrates, toilet/bath soap, other coconut oil, coconut milk powder.
COCONUT WATER took the lead for the third straight month this month with earnings of USD12.320 million from shipment of 14,154 MT.  Volume skyrocket to 14,154 MT over last year at merely 512 MT.  The US remained primary destination at 8,438 MT representing 59.6% of total. The United Kingdom also maintained its position in the second place with uptake this month at 1,925 MT (13.6%).  Trailing behind were Canada at 1,039 MT (7.3%), Australia 993 MT (7.0%), China 754 MT (5.3%), Netherlands 427 MT (3.0%), Taiwan 173 MT and 10 other countries with combined import of 404 MT.
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL, the month’s second placer, likewise kept last month ranking with turnover at USD5.849 million after trading 1,600 MT.  Tonnage, however, dropped 30.4% from last year at 2,297 MT.  The US was principal buyer cornering 70.2% or 1,124 MT.  Other major buyers were United Kingdom at 113 MT, Canada 79 MT, China 69 MT, and Germany 56 MT.  Fifteen other countries together shared 158 MT.
FATTY ACID DISTILATES with export receipts of USD4.136 million landed third.  Shipment at 3,055 MT increased 2.4% from previous year at 2,984 MT.  China was market leader at 1,636 MT (53.6%), followed by the US at 1,200 MT (39.3%).  Limited volume went to Pakistan 179 MT and India 40 MT.
Taking the fourth place was HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL with proceeds of USD3.200 million from orders of 1,816 MT. Volume shot up more than 13 times from last year at 136 MT.   The US took in bulk of this month delivery at 819 MT (45.1%), tracked by United Kingdom at 279 MT (15.4%), Singapore 262 MT (14.4%), Australia 134 MT (7.4%), Canada 95 MT (5.3%), Taiwan 78 MT (4.3%) and eight others with total purchases of 148 MT (8.1%).
GLYCERIN held the fifth slot generating USD3.126 million from sales of 3,004 MT, a higher volume compared to last year at 2,925 MT (+2.7%).  China led in this commodity with uptake at 1,247 MT (41.5%).  Smaller loads went to South Korea at 687 MT (22.9%), Japan 506 MT (16.8%), the US 390 MT (13.0%), Thailand 103 MT.  Three other countries collectively took in 72 MT.
In the sixth position was COCONUT MILK LIQUID with shipment of 1,983 MT valued at USD2.983 million.  This month export was mildly lower by 3.0% compared to last year at 2,044 MT.  Malaysia remained market leader capturing 49.0% of total deliveries during the month or 971 MT, followed by the US at 396 MT (20.0%), United Kingdom 201 MT (10.1%), China 89 MT (4.5%), Spain 71 MT (3.6%) and eight other countries with total intake of 255 MT (12.9%).
COCONUT WATER CONCENTRATES was top seven with foreign exchange income of USD1.805 million.  Orders this month at 595 MT, however, clipped by 94.6% last year total at 10,989 MT.  The US and China remained the top two destinations with the former responsible for 216 MT (36.4%) and China 123 MT (20.7%).  Following behind were Brazil at 73 MT (12.2%), United Kingdom 68 MT (11.5%) and six others with orders of 114 MT (19.2%).
The eighth major export was TOILET/BATH SOAP which generated USD1.573 million from overseas purchases of 656 MT.  Volume increased 30.7% from last year at 502 MT.  This was principally shipped to Vietnam at 286 MT (43.6%), trailed by United Arab Emirates at 136 MT (20.8%), Singapore 111 MT (16.9%), Nigeria 26 MT (3.9%), Thailand 24 MT (3.7%) and 13 others which jointly held 73 MT (11.1%).
COCONUT OIL, OTHER had turnover of USD1.568 million and became the ninth leading non-traditional export.  Delivery this month at 527 MT more than doubled from 230 MT last year (+129.4%).  The US headed the list of importers at 299 MT (56.7%).  Other major buyers were Iran 62 MT (11.7%), Canada 50 MT (9.4%), Mexico 32 MT (6.0%), Australia 30 MT (5.7%) and four others with total orders of 55 MT (10.5%).
Completing the top 10 exports was COCO MILK POWDER.  Volume traded at 196 MT was worth USD1.180 million. Purchases this month, however, showed a 49.1% shortfall from last year at 385 MT.  The US remained a principal destination controlling nearly two-thirds (61.2%) of total or 120 MT. Other markets were Japan 26 MT (13.4%), Mexico 23 MT (11.8%), Italy 14 MT (7.0%) and Australia 13 MT (6.5%).
The next six leading non-traditional products export this month were Biodiesel, Coconut Acid Oils, Coco Peat/Dust, Nata de Coco, Coir Products, and Coconut Flour.  (More on this in the next issue of UWB).
