Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up in July
Thursday, November 24, 2022Figures from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of coconut kernel products in January-July rose 61% to Rs74,378.86 million (USD251.07 million) from Rs46,200.93 million (USD234.28 million) at the same time last year. The top five coconut kernel products export turned in Rs60,580.79 million (USD204.49 million), up 52% from Rs39,804.67 million (USD201.85 million).
Desiccated coconut was the biggest revenue generator during the period, followed by coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream. However, in terms of volume, coconut milk took the lead with shipment of 32,039 MT, increasing by 5% over 30,475 MT in prior year. Desiccated coconut was second with 24,166 MT (up 33% from 18,133 MT); followed by coconut cream with 10,693 MT (+7% from 9,958 MT), virgin coconut oil with 9,007 MT (+16% from 7,735 MT), and coconut milk powder with 4,880 MT (+33% from 3,968 MT).
For the month of July alone, total value of coconut kernel products export was Rs11,160.99 million, higher by 35% compared to same month last year, with the top five exports representing Rs8,882.86 million, likewise higher by 25% from year-ago. Amid higher revenues, corresponding volume during the month declined from year-ago across all products. Coconut milk still led in volume traded with 3,583 MT (4,818 MT), trailed by desiccated coconut with 3,315 MT (3,476 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,236 MT (1,395 MT), coconut cream 1,220 MT (2,029 MT), and coconut milk powder 594 (1,169 MT).
