US Import of Lauric Oils Slightly Down in May

Data from Oil World showed the US imported 59,300 MT of lauric oils in May, a slight drop by 1.5% from May last year at 60,200 MT.  Of this total, coconut oil was 33,100 MT, lower by 2.9% from prior year at 34,100 MT.  Palm kernel oil was 26,200 MT, a fractional rise by 0.4% from 26,100 MT. Coconut oil was 55.8% of the lauric oil import mix and palm kernel oil 44.2%. 

Indonesia was this month leading lauric oil supplier to the US responsible for 57.7% of the pack equivalent to 34,200 MT (30,400 MT last year) of which coconut oil was 11,800 MT (5,900 MT) and palm kernel oil was 22,400 MT (24,500 MT).  The Philippines supplied 29.7% which was solely coconut oil at 17,600 MT (22,400 MT).  Delivery from Malaysia at 5,600 MT (5,800 MT) accounted for 9.4%, thereof coconut oil was 2,200 MT (4,400 MT) and palm kernel oil was 3,400 MT (1,400 MT).  The remaining 3.2% or 1,900 MT (1,600 MT) came from Others category, thereof 1,500 MT (1,400 MT) was coconut oil and 400 MT (200 MT) was palm kernel oil.  

Total lauric oils import for the five-month period to May reached 350,100 MT, a modest rise by 6.1% from 330,100 MT at the same time last year.  Coconut oil was 216,400 MT (169,300 MT) of which 57.2% or 123,800 MT (110,800 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 133,700 MT (160,800 MT) of which 90.1% or 120,500 MT (129,000 MT) came from Indonesia.
