Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up in February
Thursday, May 12, 2022Data from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export in February increased 16% to Rs6,782.04 million (USD33.64 million) from Rs5,866.07 million (USD30.49 million) in the same month a year earlier. The top five exports generated Rs5,789.26 million (USD28.72 million), likewise higher than prior year at Rs5,037.56 million (USD26.17 million) by 15% and accounted for 85% of total coconut kernel products trade.
Coconut milk was the leading export earner during the month with turnover at Rs1,747 million from shipment at 4,527 MT. Income rose 16% from Rs1,504 million and volume hiked 11% from 4,071 MT. This was followed by desiccated coconut with revenue at Rs1,624 million (+25% from Rs1,302 million last year) from delivery of 2,988 MT (+30% from 2,298 MT). Virgin coconut oil was third at Rs948 million (+3% from Rs921 million) from orders of 951 MT (+4% from 917 MT), followed by coconut milk powder and coconut cream. Coconut milk powder earned Rs822 million (+5% from Rs780 million) from sales of 757 MT (+19% from 636 MT) and coconut cream turned in Rs649 million (+22% from Rs531 million) from trade of 1,338 MT (+22% from 1,143 MT).
The cumulative coconut kernel products export in January-February amounted to Rs13,971.72 million (USD63.30 million), a jump by 31% from similar period year-ago at Rs10,673.87 million (USD55.49 million). The top five exports, coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream in that order, collectively accounted for 87% of this total. Corresponding shipment volume is as follows, in MT: coconut milk 9,615 (8,110 last year), desiccated coconut 6,037 (3,813), virgin coconut oil 1,966 (1,571), coconut milk powder 1,478 (1,188), coconut cream 2,926 (2,168).
