Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up Sharply in February

Official figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority show export of coconut products by the Philippines in February nearly doubled same month last year total. Export volume at 229,368 MT in copra terms shot up 96.8% from 116,653 MT. Gross export receipts likewise nearly doubled at USD328.894 million from USD166.364 million (+97.7%) largely boosted by coconut oil which saw income leaped to nearly thrice prior year.
Export of coconut oil rocketed 130.1% to 123,579 MT from 53,705 MT last year. The figure is 8.7% short of the most recent monthly high of 135,308 MT recorded in June 2019. Copra meal shipment climbed 31.5% to 33,838 MT from 25,724 MT and desiccated coconut hiked 21.9% at 14,603 MT from 11,976 MT. On the other hand, oleochemicals reduced sales by 17.5% to 10,633 MT as copra from 12,891 MT.
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coconut shell charcoal 10,227 (+64.2% from 6,229 last year), activated carbon 6,229 (+10.9% from 5,616), virgin coconut oil 2,062 (-34.7% from 3,158), coconut water 20,400 liters (-99.2% from 2.496 million liters), fresh coconuts 35 (+1,770.8% from 2), Others 29,931 (+12.8% from 26,531).
Export in January-February accumulated to 409,755 MT in copra terms, a huge jump by 78.0% from 230,245 MT at the same time a year ago. Corresponding revenue likewise spiked steeply by 80.0% to USD588.003 million from USD326.585 million. Breakdown of shipment by volume is as follows, MT: coconut oil 220,588 (106,007 last year), copra meal 72,753 (45,572), desiccated coconut 26,413 (22,499), oleochemicals as copra 18,778 (27,195); Coco shell charcoal 17,622 (11,503), activated carbon 12,102 (11,787), virgin coconut oil 3,837 (6,790), coco water 20,590 liters (2.536 million liters), fresh coconuts 43 (75), Others 46,931 (52,345).
