World Desiccated Coconut Export Up in 2021

Desiccated coconut export of the world’s top producers, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka aggregated 339,861 MT in 2021 with corresponding value of USD739.782 million FOB.  Figures were derived from respective country data published in February issue of the Cocommunity, a monthly publication of the International Coconut Community.  Volume rose 12.2% from prior year at 302,878 MT while value leaped 45.0% from USD510.099 million driven by high prices.
A three-year data showed the Philippines was leading exporter responsible for 49.1%, trailed by Indonesia at 38.7% and Sri Lanka at 12.3%.  This is based on average annual trade of 315,394 MT during the period, at respective volume of 154,682 MT, 122,254 MT and 38,458 MT.  The Philippines and Indonesia recorded their highest shipment in 2021 at 163,811 MT and 139,934 MT, respectively, while Sri Lanka’s highest was in 2019 at 49,667 MT.  
Pricewise though, Sri Lanka topped at average USD2,347.58/MT FOB, followed by the Philippines at USD1,942.95 and Indonesia at USD1,419.78.  All three countries registered their peak prices in 2021 with Sri Lanka at USD2,986.16, the Philippines at USD2,425.12 and Indonesia at USD1,677.03; while all prices were at their lowest in 2019.
