Destinations of Coconut Oil Export in October
Thursday, January 20, 2022Export of coconut oil in October still consisted largely of crude coconut oil at 73,223 MT. Cochin (refined, bleached) oil was 10,673 MT and RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized or fully refined) oil was 9,204 MT. The product mix was valued USD131.976 million.
Europe remained a principal destination for coconut oil export which during the month took in 43,992 MT of the product mix or 47.3% of the pack. The United States was far second at 19,999 MT (21.5%), followed by Malaysia at 8,098 MT (8.7%), China 7,065 MT (7.6%), Japan 5,689 MT (6.1%), Indonesia 4,000 MT (4.3%), Sri Lanka 3,100 MT (3.3%), which made up the top seven coconut oil importers.
A big part of Europe’s uptake was crude coconut oil making it a leading importer of the product with total purchased during the month at 43,492 MT (Netherlands 33,780, Spain 5,712, Italy 4,000). The United States took the second place at 13,500 MT, trailed by Malaysia 8,000 MT, Indonesia 4,000 MT, Sri Lanka 3,100 MT, Japan 750 MT, China 317 MT, and India 64 MT. Cochin oil had limited outlets with huge volumes going to the United States and Japan at 5,751 MT and 4,850 MT, respectively, and a limited amount of 72 MT to Canada.
By contrast, RBD coconut oil registered 18 importing countries during the month with a dozen of them exclusive RBD oil buyers. China was primary buyer at 6,748 MT, followed far behind by the United States at 747 MT, Europe 499 MT (Netherlands 322, Belgium 119, Germany, Czech Republic, and France at 19 apiece), Singapore 420 MT, South Africa 113 MT, Argentina 106 MT which made up the top six. Other buyers were Malaysia at 98 MT, Japan 89 MT, Brazil 80 MT, Bangladesh 68 MT, Taiwan 66 MT, Pakistan 60 MT, United Arab Emirates 49 MT, Canada 35 MT, Lebanon 16 MT, New Zealand 6 MT, Hong Kong 3 MT and South Korea 1 MT.
