Chinese Import of Lauric Oils Up in October

Data from Oil World show China imported 90,000 MT of lauric oils in October this year, sharply increasing by 26.8% from same month year-ago at 71,000 MT. Palm kernel oil remained the dominant lauric oil import amounting to 78,000 MT (86.7% share) while coconut oil was 12,000 MT (13.3%). 

Indonesia remained the country’s major source of lauric oil contributing 87.8% with delivery of 79,000 MT (52,000 MT year-ago) which consisted of 72,000 MT (41,000 MT) of palm kernel oil and 7,000 MT (11,000 MT) of coconut oil. Malaysia and the Philippines each shared 5.6%.  Import from the Philippines at 5,000 MT (1,000 MT) was solely coconut oil.  On the other hand, import from Malaysia at 5,000 MT was solely palm kernel oil; last year import, however, was a mix of 16,000 MT palm kernel oil and 3,000 MT coconut oil. 

Total imports in January-October stood at 616,000 MT, dropping by 10.8% from 691,000 MT at the same time last year. Palm kernel oil was 481,000 MT (564,000 MT) and was mostly (74.8%) supplied by Indonesia at 360,000 MT (412,000 MT). Coconut oil was 135,000 MT (127,000 MT) and bulk of which at 79,000 MT (80,000 MT) representing 58.5% likewise came from Indonesia. The Philippines contributed 21.5% to total coconut oil import.
