Overseas purchases of coconut shell charcoal in August reached 10,071 MT with gross export receipts of USD6.290 million.  Primary destination was China which took in 6,635 MT or nearly two-thirds (65.9%) of total, followed by Japan at 1,528 MT (15.2%).  Other markets were Vietnam with 904 MT, Turkey 417 MT, South Korea 388 MT, India 162 MT, US 27 MT, Canada 10 MT. 

Activated carbon export in the same month stood at 5,385 MT with earnings of USD11.323 million.  Japan was principal outlet with uptake at 1,034 MT (19.2%), trailed by Germany and the US which rounded up the top three. Germany took in 856 MT (15.9%) and the US 736 MT (13.7%). 

Nine other big country buyers which held volume ranging 120-452 MT together cornered 44.4% of the market namely, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Russia, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Belgium, United Kingdom, South Africa.  On the other hand, smaller loads of less than 100 MT (3-97 MT range) went to seven other countries namely, Peru, Tanzania, Finland, Italy, Malaysia, Sweden, India.
