Sri Lanka Coco Kernel Products Export Up in July
Thursday, October 7, 2021Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority data show the country’s coconut kernel products export leaped 15% year-on-year in July to Rs8,297.47 million (USD42.08 million) from Rs7,221.76 million (USD38.94 million). The top five exports accounted for much of this total with earnings of Rs7,104.01 million (USD36.02 million); prior year revenue was Rs6,028.67 million (USD32.51 million).
The top five exports were desiccated coconut, coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut cream and coconut milk powder, in that order. All products posted turnover increases during the month with the highest growth depicted in coconut cream (+79%), trailed by desiccated coconut (+23%), coconut milk and coconut milk powder at 8% apiece, and virgin coconut oil at 5%. In terms of volume, however, coconut milk remained leading export at 4,818 MT (5,369 MT last year), followed by desiccated coconut at 3,476 MT (3,527 MT), coconut cream 2,029 MT (1,309 MT), virgin coconut oil at 1,395 MT (1,825 MT), and coconut milk powder 623 MT (679 MT).
January-July export volumes of the top coconut products are shown following, in MT: coconut milk 30,475 (+22% from 24,939 last year), desiccated coconut 18,133 (+8% from 16,830), coconut cream 9,958 (+26% from 7,902), virgin coconut oil 7,735 (+9% from 7,101), coconut milk powder 3,968 (+2% from 3,885). Combined revenue was Rs39,804.67 million (+44% from Rs27,557.54 million).
