Three-Firm Partnership Trials Use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil in Trucks

A new partnership between global shipping company Samskip, consumer goods giant Unilever and logistics hub TMA Logistics is trialling 100% hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in trucks in the Netherlands, Oils & Fats International reported on June 04.  The companies, which announced the partnership last month, would be using HVO100 biofuels supplied by Schouten Olie in trucks carrying goods for Unilever from the TMA Logistics terminal, Samskip said.  
    
Produced from cooking oils and residual waste, the product was 100% biofuel and could be used in all diesel engines, according to the company. “This project will bring new possibilities to the market and provide encouragement for shippers seeking greener fuel alternatives by demonstrating the ease and efficiency of integrating HVO-based fuel into existing fleet equipment and operations,” Samskip CCO and Deputy CEO Ásbjörn Gíslason said. “This biofuel partnership is in line with the ambition of the City of Amsterdam and Port of Amsterdam to reduce transport emissions”, TMA Logistics general manager Michael van Toledo added.
