Sri Lanka Exports of Coco Kernel Products Down in H1

Statistics from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show export of coconut kernel products during the first  half of this year slightly declined by 6% to Rs25,742 million (USD138.4 million) from Rs27,385 million at the same time a year ago.  The top five export earners generated Rs22,344.91 million (Rs23,763.04 million).  This comprised of coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coconut cream, and coconut milk powder in that order.

In terms of volume, growths were achieved in coconut milk and coconut cream. Coconut milk shipment increased by 20% to 25,158 MT from 21,042 MT year-ago, and coconut cream hiked 22% to 6,593 MT from 5,384 MT.  Declines were registered in desiccated coconut at 45% to 13,303 MT from 24,304 MT, virgin coconut oil at 19% to 5,278 MT from 6,523 MT, and coconut milk powder by 17% to 3,206 MT from 3,881 MT.

The next five leading earners were coconut oil with shipment of 2,140 MT (1,580 MT last year), fresh coconuts 7.871 million nuts (8.066 million), defatted coconut 2,074 MT (1,538 MT), coconut water 1,557 MT (2,665 MT), and copra 955 MT (1,754 MT).  In this group, coconut oil and defatted coconut recorded increments of 35% apiece, while shortfalls were observed in fresh coconuts (-2%), coconut water (-42%) and copra (-46%).
