Destinations of Coconut Oil Export in June
Thursday, September 10, 2020Export of coconut oil during the month consisted of 71,671 MT crude coconut oil, 12,645 MT cochin (refined, bleached) oil, and 8,309 MT RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized) oil, the combined value of which was USD78.679 million. Europe was almost an exclusive market cornering 71.4% or 66,179 MT of the three oil types combined. The United States took in 18,725 MT (20.2%), China 4,100 MT (4.4%), Japan 2,156 MT (2.3%).
Bulk of Europe’s purchases was crude coconut oil at 65,671 MT (Netherlands 60,170, Spain 5,501). The US was the other importer of crude coconut oil with uptake at 6,000 MT. The US, however, was leading buyer of cochin oil with orders of 10,407 MT, trailed by Japan with 2,105 MT, Pakistan 83 MT, and Europe 50 MT (United Kingdom).
On the other hand, China was top importer of RBD coconut oil with offtake at 4,100 MT, no other coconut oil type was imported by the country during the month. The US followed with 2,318 MT, next was Sri Lanka with 821 MT, then Europe 458 MT (Netherlands 360, Germany 77, Hungary 20), Argentina 133 MT, Turkey 81 MT, Canada 75 MT, Pakistan 62 MT, Japan 51 MT, Taiwan 41 MT, Mexico 39 MT, Australia 36 MT, Malaysia 32 MT, Ecuador 26 MT, South Africa 19 MT, and Vietnam 18 MT.

Export of copra meal in June at 12,759 MT generated USD2.548 million. India took in almost all the month’s load with delivery of 11,118 MT or 87.1% of total trade. Other markets were Taiwan 929 MT (7.3%), New Zealand 314 MT (2.5%), Vietnam 231 MT (1.8%) and South Korea 167 MT (1.3%).
