EU Import of Vegetable Oils and Fats Up in 2019Thursday, March 5, 2020
Data from Oil World also show the EU imported 13.829 million MT of oils and fats in calendar year 2019, sharply rising by 9.2% from same period year-ago at 12.664 million MT. Almost three-fourths (72.3%) of imported oils/fats were tropical oils such as palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil, which were mainly sourced from Southeast Asia.
Palm oil was the leading import accounting for 62.5% at 8.650 million MT (8.176 million MT year-earlier), followed by sunflower oil with share at 16.3% at 2.258 million MT (1.606 million MT). Completing the top five imports were palm kernel oil at 716,000 MT (721,000 MT), coconut oil at 640,000 MT (626,000 MT) and soybean oil at 438,000 MT (328,000 MT) with respective market shares at 5.2%, 4.6%, and 3.2%.
Other vegetable oils/fats imported during the year were, in 1,000 MT: rapeseed oil 283 (252), fish oil 225 (221), castor oil 178 (191), olive oil 174 (210), tallow & grease 144 (155) and Others oils/fats 123 (179). Together they comprised 8.1% of total imports.
