Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in November 2019

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show the country’s export of coconut products in November totaled 133,432 MT in copra terms, dropping sharply by 39.6 from 221,071 MT in a similar month year-earlier. Gross export receipts amounting to USD106.785 million likewise plunged by 41.1% from USD181.312 million previously, mainly on marked reduction in coconut oil turnover.
Coconut oil export was scaled down by 46.6% to 67,636 MT from 126,627 MT year-ago, exclusively dragging total traded volume.  Copra meal similarly showed sharper cut by 54.6% to 24,478 MT from 53,963 MT, a reflection of reduced coconut oil output.  In contrast, other major exports achieved gains with desiccated coconut at 13,135 MT increasing 16.9% from 11,239 MT and oleochemicals at 5,766 MT as copra showing a massive growth at 113.6% over 2,700 MT year-before. 
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 8,828 (+28.1% from 6,890 last year), activated carbon 5,624 (-5.8% from 5,968), virgin coconut oil 1,898 (-19.0% from 2,344), coco water 159,568 liters (-79.3% from 3,665,112), fresh coconuts 18,135 nuts (-85.4% from124,455), Others 23,120 (+125.6% from 10,247).
Despite sharp drop in export during the month, shipment in the 11-month period to November at 1,908,743 MT in copra terms managed to surpass a similar period year-ago total at 1,589,156 MT by a hefty 20.1%.  Revenue, however, at USD1.494 billion still lagged behind by 14.2% from USD1.742 billion mainly on low prices.
