Three Airlines to Use Sustainable Aviation Fuel at San Francisco Airport

Oil and gas giant Shell and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplier SKyNRG have begun the supply of aviation biofuel to three airlines at San Francisco Airport (SFO), the companies announced earlier last month, according to an Oils & Fats International news report on December 21.  The fuel is made from used cooking oil and  produced by US renewable fuel supplier World Energy at its Paramount refinery in Los Angeles. 

 The fuel will be supplied through SFO’s current refueling facilites and can be used by airlines without needing modification to their current fleets.  It will be used by international  airlines KLM, SAS and Finnair.  “The initial phase of the arrangement aims to pave the way for longer terms, more resilient supply chains for sustainable aviation fuels and reduce the carbon emissions of flights from San Francisco and other airports,” the joint press release said.
