Sri Lanka Desiccated Coconut Export Down in July

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of desiccated coconut was down in July this year.  Total at 2,216 MT dropped by 12.1% from July year-earlier at 2,521 MT. The shipment was worth USD6.710 million, likewise down by 12.1% from prior year at USD7.636 million.  Average traded price was calculated at USD3,028.04/MT FOB, a fractional drop from prior year at USD3,029.07/MT. 

Export in July went to at least 33 countries.  Key markets were the United States at 353 MT (15.9%), Egypt 237 MT (10.7%), Canada 221 MT (10%), Japan 198 MT (8.9%), Germany 167 MT (7.5%), Portugal 152 MT (6.9%), Iraq 148 MT (6.8%), India 112 MT (5.1%) and Saudi Arabia 104 MT (5.0%).  The remaining 24 countries took in volume ranging 1-86 MT and jointly comprised 23.2% of the market.

The cumulative January-July export figure at 11,335 MT declined steeply by 38.7% from a comparable year-ago period data at 18,485 MT.  Corresponding revenue totaled USD37.836 million to record a deficit of 26.9% from USD51.730 million at the same time year-ago.
