Huge Demand for Brai ded Coconut Frond

Kerala’s Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission that won global acclaim is set to attain greater heights, with it securing an order to supply five lakh (500,000) braided coconut fronds to a hospitality firm as roofing material, The Hindu reported on September 30.  A few hundred workers stand to get a total of approximately Rs. 90 lakh ($120,960) at Rs. 18 ($0.24) per braided frond  Rupeshkumar K., State coordinator of the mission, told The Hindu at the venue of the ongoing Kerala Travel Mart.   Efforts are made to root out middle men in the process as this would make a dent in the income of workers, he said, adding a mega training and awareness programme has been planned.
