German Import of Rapeseed Record High

German rapeseed imports have soared by 6% in the 2017/18 marketing year, reaching an all-time high of 6 million tons, Oils & Fats International reported citing data from oilseed association Union zur Förderung von Oel- und Proteinpflanzen (UFOP).  Imports from other EU countries accounted for the largest share of German imports, although the bloc’s total share fell by 2% year-on-year to 75%, UFOP said in a statement last month.
 
France was the single largest rapeseed supplier at 1.4 million tons, followed by Netherlands at 740,000 tons, Australia at 710,000 tons, and Ukraine as top four which made the largest gains.  Its exports to Germany increased three-fold to 670,000 tons.  Germany processes roughly 10 million tons/year of rapeseed, mostly driven by sales of rapeseed oil to the country’s biodiesel industry, said UFOP.
