...Activated Carbon Export Likewise Down
Thursday, October 18, 2018Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority also show the country’s export of activated carbon slightly dropped 1.4% to 22,804 MT in January-July this year from 23,134 MT in a similar period year-ago. Shipment value at USD55.969 million FOB was higher by 24.6% from previous year at USD44.914 million. Average traded price calculated at USD2,254.34/MT FOB rose by 26.4% from prior year at USD1,941.45/MT.
For the month of July alone, export was 3,385 MT. This is 2.2% more than prior year at 3,311 MT. Revenue, however, jumped 44.3% at USD9.464 million FOB from USD6.557 million driven by 41.2% spike in traded price from USD1,980.48/MT FOB last year to USD2,795.79 currently.
Export during the seven-month period went to at least 53 countries. The top four importers held volumes above 1,000 MT and collectively accounted for 54.6% of total trade. Leading the pack was United States with 6,921 MT (30.3% share), followed by China with 3,058 MT (13.6%), Japan 1,328 MT (5.8%) and India 1,149 MT (5.0%). Twenty-three other countries also took in significant volume ranging 109-801 MT and jointly contributed 42.3%, namely South Korea, Estonia, Italy, Turkey, Peru, Taiwan, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ukraine, United Kingdom, South Africa, Russia, Netherlands, France, Poland, Malaysia, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Egypt, Kenya and Australia. The remaining 26 countries which aggregately shared 4.6% of total sales took in volume ranging from a low of 1 MT to a high of 97 MT.
