U.S. Import of Lauric Oils Up in June
Thursday, September 20, 2018Data from Oil World show the U.S. imported 50,100 MT of lauric oils in June this year, a slight increase by 200 MT from June year-ago at 49,900 MT. A bigger part of the total was coconut oil at 64.3% or 32,200 MT (24,300 MT year-ago) and the remaining 35.7% or 17,900 MT (25,600 MT) was palm kernel oil.
Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 24,100 MT (31,000 MT) of which 11,900 MT (12,100 MT) was coconut oil and 12,200 MT (18,900 MT) was palm kernel oil, the equivalent of 48.1% of total lauric oil import. The Philippines contributed 38.5% with 19,300 MT (11,100 MT) of coconut oil. Malaysia shared 10.8% or 5,400 MT (2,300 MT) of palm kernel. Purchases from other countries totaled 1,200 MT (5,500 MT), of which 1,000 MT (1,100 MT) was coconut oil and 200 MT (4,400 MT) was palm kernel oil.
The cumulative January-June data stood at 443,400 MT, a rise by 1.8% from a comparable year-earlier period total at 435,400 MT. Coconut oil uptake was 266,600 MT (253,900 MT) of which 68.4% or 182,300 MT (164,700 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 176,800 MT (181,500 MT) of which 74.4% or 131,600 MT (140,600 MT) came from Indonesia.
