Sri Lanka Activated Carbon Export Up in Q1
Thursday, August 23, 2018Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of activated carbon rose by 5.5% to 10,290 MT in January-March this year from 9,753 MT in a similar period year-ago. Shipment value at USD23.065 million increased by 23.3% from USD18.699 million. Average traded price at USD2,241.47/MT FOB was down by 16.9% from prior year at USD1,917.22/MT. For the month of March alone, export at 4,014 MT climbed by 23.3% from 3,255 MT. Earnings at USD9.164 million likewise gained 34.7% from USD6.802 million.
During three-month period, export already reached 43 countries with the United States as top importer at 2,421 MT (23.5%). Trailing behind was China at 1,475 MT (14.3%). Twenty other countries also took in significant volume ranging 105-693 MT and jointly accounted for 61.1%, namely India, Japan, Peru, Estonia, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Taiwan, Poland, South Korea, Singapore, France, Hong Kong, Sweden, United Kingdom, Russia, Egypt, South Africa, Canada and Ukraine. The remaining 21 countries which aggregatey contributed 1.1% took in volume ranging from 1 MT to 79 MT.
