Malaysia Primary Industries Ministry to Announce B10 Biodiesel Program

Thursday, July 19, 2018

The Primary Industries Ministry in Malaysia will announce implementation of the B10 (10 per cent palm methyl ester with 90 per cent petroleum diesel) program in the transport sector by year-end, subject to approval by the Cabinet, according to Bernama news agency. Deputy Minister Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the ministry was in consultations with the relevant stakeholders, including the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI), on issues of manufacturer’s warranty on vehicles.

He said implementation of the biodiesel program had been deferred since June 2016 mainly due to certain technical issues and a wide price gap between Brent crude and Crude Palm Oil (CPO). “In the current situation, the price gap between both is narrowing, thus making higher blending of biodiesel with respect to the B10 program more viable to be implemented in due course,” he said in a statement.
