PHILIPPINE EXPORT OF COCONUT PRODUCTS DOWN IN JULY

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show Philippine export of coconut products in July dropped 11.9% year-on-year to 130,738 MT in copra terms from 148,314 MT.  Revenue likewise dropped but by a slower 2.8% to USD185.195 million from USD190.465 million.  The major export products reflected mixed trends with coconut oil and copra meal in the negative territory.

Export of coconut oil fell 14.8% to 68,084 MT from 79,867 MT, copra meal slumped 38.7% to 13,566 MT from 22,128 MT.  On the other hand, export of desiccated coconut gained 1.6% to 12,844 MT from 12,636 MT, oleochemicals shot up 40.3% to 2,811 MT as copra from 2,004 MT.  There was no export of copra during the month.  

Other products performed as follows, in MT:  coco shell charcoal 1,663 (-51.1% from 3,398 last year), activated carbon 5,173 (-12.5% from 5,912), virgin coconut oil 2,360 (-9.2% from 2,598), coconut water 7.707 million liters (-2.1% from 7.872 million), fresh coconuts 133,781 pcs. (-66.7% from 401,527), Others 10,082 (+44.4% from 6,982).  
 
Despite the drop in shipment during the month, total export in January-July which accumulated to 973,826 MT in copra terms surpassed by a whopping 45.9% same period last year data at 667,620 MT.  Revenue, likewise spiked 59.4% to USD1.318 billion from USD826.763 million.  Breakdown by commodity is as follows, in MT:  copra 88 (35 last year), coconut oil 533,888 (366,553), copra meal 84,803 (154,426), desiccated coconut 57,866 (41,636), oleochemicals as copra 36,832 (21,382); coco shell charcoal 18,524 (17,353), activated carbon 42,835 (32,046), virgin coconut oil 14,680 (15,791), coconut water  48.293 million liters (36.749 million), fresh coconuts 717,256 pcs. (4,971,958 pcs.), Others 89,114 (47,163).
