Outbound shipment of coconut shell charcoal in July was 1,663 MT with turnover at USD1.084 million. Like copra meal, its market was limited and counted four countries.  Japan was principal destination during the month with purchases at 1,108 MT (66.6%).  Other markets were China 293 MT (17.6%), South Korea 253 MT (15.2%), and Malaysia 9 MT.

In contrast, higher value product, activated carbon, was delivered to 32 countries.  Total volume at 5,173 MT earned USD8.399 million.  Japan and Germany were key destinatons handling 1,100 MT (21.3%) and 1,035 MT (20.0%), respectively. Following behind were the US at 696 MT (13.5%), and nine other countries with combined market share of 31.1%, namely Sri Lanka 255 MT, South Korea 243 MT, Canada 206 MT, Italy 189 MT, China 188 MT, Indonesia 171 MT, Taiwan 135 MT, Netherlands 123 MT, Finland 100 MT. 

Meanwhile, 20 other countries ordered much lesser volume in the range 2-96 MT and aggregate market share of 14.1%: Netherlands Antilles, Guinea, Australia, Sudan, Ghana, South Africa, France, Mexico, Estonia, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Brazil, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam.

Export of coconut shell charcoal in June at 2,052 MT generated USD1.179 million in foreign exchange earnings.  Japan was key market with uptake at 1,316 MT representing 64.1% of the pack.  Four other importers followed: China 252 MT (12.3%), Germany 186 MT (9.1%), South Korea 166 MT (8.1%) and Belgium 133 MT (6.5%).

Activated carbon shipment in the same month totaled 6,950 MT with proceeds of USD10.268 million.  There were 22 country buyers of which 13 took in volume higher than 100 MT and collectively accounted for 87.5%. The top three destinations were the US at 1,210 MT (17.4%), Germany 1,172 MT (16.9%), Japan 1,119 MT (16.1%).  The next 10 major buyers include: South Korea 432 MT, China 393 MT, Sri Lanka 346 MT, Netherlands 315 MT, Indonesia 231 MT, Estonia 227 MT, Italy 206 MT, Taiwan 182 MT, Canada 135 MT, Ghana 116 MT.  Nineteen other destinations which took volume ranging 4-94 MT for a total of 866 MT comprised 12.5% of the market.  This consisted of Netherlands Antilles, Australia, Finland, Belgium, France, Mexico, United Kingdom, Austria, Kenya, South Africa, India, Ivory Coast, Spain, Russia, Venezuela, Turkey, Hong Kong, Tanzania, Singpore.
