SRI LANKA ACTIVATED CARBON EXPORT DOWN IN JANUARY-JULY THIS YEAR

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority
show the country’s export of activated carbon sharply rose
by 12.9% to 23,134 MT in January-July this year from
20,492 MT in a similar period year-ago. The shipment
valued at USD44.913 million was higher by 7.1% from
previous year at USD41.948 million. Average traded price
calculated at USD1,9451.45/MT FOB slid by 5.2% from
prior year at USD2,047.06/MT. For the month of July
alone, export was 3,311 MT, a sharp climb by 23.4% from
prior year at 2,728 MT. Revenue likewise increased at
USD6.557 million from USD5.270 million.
Export during the seven-month period went to at least
50 countries. The top five importers held volumes above
1000 MT and collectively accounted for 58.9% of total
trade. Leading the pack was United States with 8,392 MT
(36.3% share), followed far behind by China with 1,698
MT (7.3%), Germany with 1,397 MT (6.0%), Japan 1,107
MT (4.8%), and Turkey 1,055 MT (4.6%).
Twenty-one other countries also took in significant
volume ranging 114-860 MT and jointly contributed 37.3%,
namely Estonia, South Korea, Sweden, South Africa, Italy,
Nertherlands, Singapore, United Kingdom, Hong Kong,
Taiwan, Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Poland, France, Finland,
Iran, Belgium, Thailand, Canada and Brazil. The remaining
24 countries which aggregately shared 3.8% of
total sales took in volume ranging from a low of 2 MT to
a high of 89 MT.
