SRI LANKA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL EXPORT UP IN FIRST HALF 2017

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of virgin coconut oil rose 3.6% to 6,748 MT in January-June this year from 6,515 MT in a similar period year-ago.  Shipment value at USD32.791 million increased 9.6% from previous year at USD29.925 million. Average traded price at USD4,859.36/MT FOB was up by 5.8% from prior year at USD4,593.24/MT.  For the month of June alone, total export was 1,233 MT, reducing by 25.5% prior year figure at 1,654 MT.  Revenue at USD6.200 million likewise dropped from last year at USD7.350 million.  

Export during the sixth-month period went to at least 62 countries. Top buyer was the United States at 1,851 MT (27.4%), trailed by Germany at 1,617 MT (24.0%) and Australia 1,079 MT (16.0%). The next five importers held volume ranging 120-401 MT and collectively accounted for 16.4%, namely United Kingdom 401 MT, Sweden 219 MT, Netherlands 199 MT, Canada 169 MT and France 120 MT.  The remaining 54 countries which aggregately accounted for 16.2% took in volume ranging 1-95 MT.
