PHILIPPINE EXPORT OF COCONUT PRODUCTS UP SHARPLY IN MARCH

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show Philippine export of coconut products in March this year leapfrogged 136.9% to 153,728 MT in copra terms from 64,899 MT in the same month year-ago.  Revenue similarly spiked 147.2% to USD216.675 million from USD87.652 million.

Major export products but copra meal registered massive growth over last year.  Coconut oil at 84,355 MT rocketed 150.1% from 33,728 MT, desiccated coconut at 7,628 MT jumped 55.8% from 4,897 MT, oleochemicals at 8,038 MT as copra was more than twice last year’s 3,792 MT (+112.0%).  There was no export of copra meal during the month as against last year’s shipment of 23,652 MT.  Likewise, there was no export of copra as last year.

Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 2,194 (+18.7% from 1,849 last year), activated carbon 6,623 (+44.7% from 4,577), virgin coconut oil 1,538 (-38.2% from 2,490), coconut water 3.568 million liters (-48.0% from 6.865 million), fresh coconuts 224,550 nuts (-81.4% from 1,207,532), Others 17,357 (+160.5% from 8,816).

Total export for the first quarter of this year at 525,741 MT in copra terms nearly doubled a comparable year-ago period data at 266,671 MT (+97.2%). Breakdown is as follows, in MT: copra nil (23 last year), coconut oil 298,838 (148,511), copra meal 29,457 (70,083), desiccated coconut 22,410 (13,825), oleochemicals as copra 16,747 (9,442); coco shell charcoal 8,034 (7,845), activated carbon 17,538 (13,284), virgin coconut oil 4,149 (5,550), coconut water 15.127 million liters (17.354 million), fresh coconuts nuts 351,572 (2,780,584), Others 34,083 (20,820).
