US Import of Lauric Oils Up in June
Thursday, August 27, 2020Data from Oil World show the US imported 63,400 MT of lauric oils in June, topping same month prior year total at 57,500 MT by 10.3%. Of this total, coconut oil accounted for 46.4% or 29,400 MT (40,300 MT in the prior year) while palm kernel oil contributed 53.6% or 34,000 MT (17,200 MT).
Indonesia was leading supplier of lauric oil to the US during the month responsible for 72.9% total uptake at 46,200 MT (6,000 MT) of which 19,000 MT (300 MT) was coconut oil and 27,200 MT (5,700 MT) was palm kernel oil. The Philippines accounted for 12.3% with 7,800 MT (38,400 MT) of coconut oil shipment. Import from Malaysia likewise was 7,800 MT (11,500 MT) and contributed 12.3%. However, this consisted of a mix 6,700 MT (11,300 MT) was palm kernel oil and 1,100 MT (200 MT) of coconut oil. Market share of other countries combined was 2.5%, the equivalent of 1,600 MT (1,600 MT) of lauric oils comprising of 1,500 MT (1,400 MT) coconut oil and 100 MT (200 MT) palm kernel oil.
The cumulative January-June figure stood at 424,300 MT, rising by 10.7% from a comparable year-earlier period total at 383,100 MT. Coconut oil uptake was 240,700 MT (221,200 MT) of which 64.6% or 155,600 MT (156,200 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 183,600 MT (162,000 MT) of which 77.5% or 142,400 MT (118,700 MT) originated from Indonesia.
