INTERNATIONAL OLIVE OIL COUNCIL PROJECTS 12% RISE IN OUTPUT

The International Olive Oil Council (IOC) projects global olive oil production to increase by 12% in the current crop year (September 2017-August 2018).  However, this will still fall under the average harvest rate of the last five years of 2.671 million tons.  The IOC was projecting this season’s production to rise to 2.598 million tons from the 2.302 million tons harvested in the past crop year.  

Spain’s production was expected to reach 1.043 million tons, down 10% from last year while Italy was poised to register a 75% increase in production from the poor results of the last season, climbing to 290,299 tons.  Greece was expected to rebound from last year’s plagues with a production estimate of 272,155 tons.  Portugal is expected to have an all-time record of 34,000 tons.  Projections for Argentina was placed at 34,000 tons, Algeria 72,574 tons, Morocco 108,852 tons, and Turkey 163,293 tons.
